"...The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork." Psalms 19:1
A couple of nights ago, we had some storms pass through our area. Though we really didn't experience the storms, the clouds put on a show! It was beautiful, and it reminded me of a verse in Psalms.

Last Saturday, my mom went to an appreciation luncheon for Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra parents, where she received a bouquet of lilies. When she brought them home, only one lily was open and the rest were just buds. Mom put them in a vase, added some plant food, and now nearly a week later almost all of the buds have unfolded. We've had them on the dining room table all week and the aroma has filled the house! These lilies are so fragrant that they had to be put outside. Some of us have allergies and they were causing flareups. But, aside from the smell, these lilies are gorgeous!
Ok, so I guess, I've failed part of the challenge because I haven't posted every single day for the last two weeks. However, I think it was worth it to seek to document how God shows up in everyday things.
I know for me, its easy to have my quiet time with God or my Bible study and then go on about my day and not really think about God or what he showed me in my Bible study. As Christian's our walk with him should not be regulated to a certain time frame or part of the day. It's a relationship. How would you feel if a friend of yours talked to you for ten or fifteen minutes in the morning and then wouldn't talk to you for the rest of the day? This photo gift challenge has helped/is helping me train myself to be more aware of God's presence and my thought processes toward him. Psalm 77:12 "I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings." Day fourteen's gift is: a homemade quilt Several years ago, I decided to make a quilt. So, I pulled out all the scraps from all the sewing projects of the past decade. There were scraps from dresses and night gowns, skirts and bonnets, pillows and many other sewing projects. I made the quilt to fit a single bed and hand quilted it. This quilt holds many memories of God's goodness. Day thirteen's gift: green plants
This morning I looked out my window and saw one of our many maple trees swaying in the breeze. It was beautiful! I grabbed my camera and dashed outside. Looking up the trunk of the tree I saw a very strong support system that has withstood many a storm. Later, when I looked down, I saw this huge patch of white clover. Each flower was so tiny compared to the tree but just as beautiful and full of life! Matthew 24:35 "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." Day twelve's gift: Flowers.
When I see these flowers I see a vase full of smiles. A friend gave me them to me several days ago and they are still just as full of life and color as the day I got them. Thanks Wendy! Day eleven's gift: a storm that brings rain.
Sunday evening on the way home from church it was thundering and lightning. The clouds were very dark and heavy with rain. Just as we got home the first big drops were falling, and I snapped this quick picture. I am grateful for the storm because it brings much needed rain. But, also I enjoy watching the changing of the sky, and the smell in the air that tells that the rain is coming. Day ten's gift: foot support.
I did a lot of house cleaning on Saturday and I'm very thankful for shoes that fit and support my feet! Day nine's gift is furry animals.
They add spice and a few chuckles to life. Peaches our dog is an English Springer Spaniel. She loves to chase anything that moves and she's always ready to play. Recently, Peaches caught a two and half foot Eastern King Snake, (they are not poisonous) as well as a chipmunk, and four mice, which she killed. Peaches is always on the move, being still for a long period of time just isn't in her vocabulary. She has a little stub of a tail that wiggles a mile a minute and if it were any longer it would be a lethal weapon! If peaches finds something in the yard she knows she's not supposed to have she'll pick it up in her mouth and strut around like she's queen of the hill, and look at you out of the corner of her eye to see if you are watching. Peaches a crazy and funny dog, but we love her. Today's gift is the gift of music.
This evening my family and I went to a violin recital. There were about eighteen to twenty students that played, and almost all of them were quite advanced in their technique. That's the most "fiddlin' " (that's not really the right word, but it's the only one I can think of right now.) I've ever heard in a two hour period! It was an enjoyable evening. I'm so glad God made music! I can't imagine what the world would be like without it. Ok, alright. Call me whatever you want for failing to post the last couple days. My life has been very busy the last couple of days and I just haven't had the time to sit down and blog. So, here's to making it up! :-D Day seven's gift is modern conveniences. Tuesday evening of this week one of my sisters when out to cut the grass and discovered our lawn mower had died. No matter what we did it wouldn't start, and when the cord was yanked it sounded like a sick cow! I'm glad that we don't have to cut brush with a knife anymore! Day eight's gift is the smells and fun of baking!
Yesterday, I worked in the church most of the afternoon making dinner. We made homemade cheesy garlic bread, and chocolate chip raisin cookies, amongst other things. :-) I don't think there's anything that smells so good as warm, fresh baked bread! It makes my mouth water just to think about it. We were going to make oatmeal raisin cookies but when we started making them we discovered we didn't have any oatmeal! So, we just added more flour and some chocolate chips to the oatmeal recipe. The cookies were a success and were thick, moist, and almost cake-like. And of course with all those raisins and chocolate chips they had to be great anyway! So, moral of the story, running out of ingredients is not always bad! :-D |
