Every year for the past couple of years we have hung a humming bird feeder on our back deck. This year, we have not had as many hummers as in previous years. However, we do have three or four that frequent the feeder.
One of the humming birds likes to guard the feeder and does not allow the other birds to drink. It will sit on the vine of one of the potted flowers or the chain of a hanging basket on the deck and watch for the competition.
We have dubbed this humming bird "Hummer Himmler". It is funny to watch it hog the feeder and and run the other birds off. Humming birds are naturally very territorial, but we have never seen one do this before.
